Heredé un proyecto a mitad. Nadie sabía qué archivo era el bueno. Los nombres: _FINAL_v2_OK_def.SLDPRT. Los ensamblajes abrían piezas al azar según lo que encontraban en la carpeta. Pasé dos días reconstruyendo el estado real del diseño antes de poder tocar nada.
I inherited a project halfway through. Nobody knew which file was correct. The names: _FINAL_v2_OK_def.SLDPRT. Assemblies were loading random parts based on whatever they found in the folder. I spent two days reconstructing the actual state of the design before I could touch anything.
Por suerte ningún error llegó a producción. Pero nunca estuve del todo seguro. Ese "por suerte" me quedó grabado.
Luckily no error reached production. But I was never fully sure. That "luckily" stayed with me.

GET
Descarga el archivo y todas sus dependencias — piezas, subconjuntos y planos — desde el workspace a tu equipo. Siempre la versión válida. Si ya tienes la versión correcta en local, GET lo detecta y no descarga nada. Si hay una versión más reciente, actualiza solo lo que ha cambiado.
Cuándo usarlo: al empezar el día, antes de modificar un archivo que lleva tiempo sin tocar, o cuando un compañero avisa de que ha publicado cambios.
Downloads the file and all its dependencies — parts, subassemblies and drawings — from the workspace to your machine. Always the valid version. If you already have the correct version locally, GET detects it and downloads nothing. If there's a newer version, only what has changed is updated.
When to use it: at the start of the day, before modifying a file that hasn't been touched in a while, or when a colleague says they've published changes.
LOCK
Mientras esté bloqueado, nadie más puede bloquearlo ni publicar sobre él — cualquier intento muestra un aviso con tu nombre. Si el archivo no está actualizado en tu equipo, LeanPDM hace el GET automáticamente. Si otro compañero ya lo tiene bloqueado, LeanPDM te indica quién y desde cuándo.
Regla práctica: lockea siempre antes de modificar. El coste de lockear es cero. El de no hacerlo puede ser perder trabajo.
While it's locked, nobody else can lock it or publish over it — any attempt shows a warning with your name. If the file isn't up to date, LeanPDM runs GET automatically. If a colleague already has it locked, LeanPDM tells you who and since when.
Practical rule: always lock before modifying. The cost of locking is zero. The cost of not locking can be lost work.

EDIT
Trabaja con normalidad en SolidWorks o Inventor. LeanPDM no interfiere. Guarda tantas veces como quieras — esos cambios no afectan al workspace ni al resto del equipo hasta que publiques. El panel se actualiza automáticamente al guardar.
Si modificas una pieza hija desde el ensamblaje padre sin haberla bloqueado, LeanPDM te avisa de que ese cambio no quedará protegido.
Work normally in SolidWorks or Inventor. LeanPDM doesn't interfere. Save as many times as you want — those changes don't affect the workspace or anyone else until you publish. The panel updates automatically when you save.
If you modify a child part from the parent assembly without having locked it first, LeanPDM warns you that the change won't be protected.
PUBLISH
Sube tu versión al workspace. LeanPDM registra la publicación con tu nombre, fecha y hora y libera el bloqueo automáticamente. Solo puedes publicar lo que tú has bloqueado. Si hay archivos hijos nuevos que no existen en el workspace, se publican también.
Si el archivo tiene un plano asociado, LeanPDM avisa de que puede haber quedado desactualizado. Si el archivo no ha cambiado respecto al workspace, LeanPDM te sugiere hacer UNLOCK en su lugar.
Upload your version to the workspace. LeanPDM records the publish with your name, date and time and releases the lock automatically. You can only publish what you locked. New child files not yet in the workspace are published automatically too.
If the file has an associated drawing, LeanPDM warns it may be outdated. If the file hasn't changed from the workspace, LeanPDM suggests doing UNLOCK instead.
UNLOCK
Libera el bloqueo sin publicar. Tus archivos locales no se borran — solo se libera el bloqueo en el workspace. Si tienes cambios locales sin publicar, LeanPDM te avisa antes de proceder.
Cuándo usarlo: al terminar una sesión sin publicar, cuando el cambio era incorrecto, o cuando un compañero necesita el archivo urgentemente.
Release the lock without publishing. Your local files aren't deleted — only the workspace lock is released. If you have unpublished local changes, LeanPDM warns you before proceeding.
When to use it: when ending a session without publishing, when the change was wrong, or when a colleague urgently needs the file.
